Guwahati, Assam | 15th August 2026
On the proud occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day, Samamatrika Self Help Group celebrated the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat by successfully completing a one-day Soap Making Course for women in Gauhati.
The training program was sponsored by INSPIRING INDIAN WOMEN (IIW), a charitable foundation based in the United Kingdom, dedicated to empowering women through skill development and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Empowering Women Through Skill
The workshop was designed to equip women with practical, income-generating skills in handmade soap production. Participants learned about natural ingredients, formulation, hygiene standards, packaging, and basic entrepreneurship — giving them the tools to start small home-based enterprises.
The session was led by Trainer Kalyani Devi Borthakur, whose hands-on guidance and expertise made complex processes simple and accessible for all participants.
Leadership and Participation
The program was held under the leadership of:
- President: Rajni Shah
- Secretary: Pranita Das
Active participation was seen from Samamatrika SHG members:
Bhaswati Borkataki, Anjali Devi, Chandana Das, Bequeen Mahanta, Anju Devi Das, Jyoti Bisukarma, Anuwara Begum, Sangita Kalita, Ikha Thakuria, and Priyanka Thakuria.
The energy and enthusiasm of the members reflected the true meaning of independence — self-reliance, dignity of labor, and collective progress.
A Step Toward Self-Reliance
Speaking on the occasion, President Rajni Shah said, “On this 80th Independence Day, we are not just celebrating freedom from colonial rule, but freedom through skills. This soap making course is a small step toward financial independence for the women of our group.”
Secretary Pranita Das added her gratitude to IIW for their support, noting that such collaborations help bring global opportunities to grassroots women in Assam.
Samamatrika Self Help Group extends heartfelt thanks to INSPIRING INDIAN WOMEN (IIW) for sponsoring the course, and to Trainer Kalyani Devi Borthakur for her valuable mentorship.
As India marks 80 years of independence, initiatives like these remind us that real progress happens when women are skilled, confident, and economically empowered.
